USSEC is helping interns learn about soybean exports

The communications outreach intern at the Indiana Soybean Alliance says exploring various opportunities in the ag industry is helping her decide her future career.

Kate Mattingly represented Indiana at the U.S. Soybean Export Council Intern Retreat.

“I think it’s a great way for young professionals to gain experience about exporting and some policy things that go along with it,” she says. “I traveled alone, I made new connections alone and I think it just helps really gain confidence and pushes the interns to kind of go out of their comfort zone.”

She tells Brownfield the group also had the opportunity to learn more about the industry during tours of ADM, Bayer, and a lock and dam.

“We visited Bayer and saw everything from scientists making an innovative seed product to engineers making the farm equipment that are ultimately used by farmers,” she says.

Mattingly will return to Purdue University this fall to finish her agricultural communication degree.

The Indiana Soybean Alliance is a Qualified State Soybean Board within the U.S. Soybean Export Council.
