The Deputy Secretary at USDA is touting the ag provisions included in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

Stephen Vaden says the legislation has big wins for American agriculture.

“First and foremost, it modernizes reference prices. As you know, the cost of production in agriculture has skyrocketed over the past few years (and) USDA’s formulas for reference prices have not kept up with it.”

During a stop at Farmfest in southwest Minnesota last week, he said the reconciliation package also provides tax certainty to farmers.

“For too long we have run our tax policy as kind of a gimmick. We would pass a tax cut or a tax provision that was favorable to agriculture, that provision would have an exploding timeclock attached to it. So that after five or so many years, it would go away.”

Vaden says the One Big Beautiful Bill allows for expensing provisions to continue and for the death tax to be done away with for more than 99 percent of Americans.
