Vance addresses ag concerns in post-SOTU speech

Vice President J.D. Vance addressed ag and manufacturing issues during a stop in Plover, Wisconsin, on Thursday.
Vance says Ag Secretary Brooke Rollins and the administration have been working on the farm commodity price crisis since day one. “We’ve made very strong efforts and we’re going to keep on working at this with our farmers to ensure that whatever commodity prices are, they’re able to stay afloat, they’re able to grow their products. We know they’re struggling and we’re trying hard to fix that.”
Vance says farmers are worried, and he expects helpful, bipartisan legislation to move through Congress. “They’re worried that the soybeans, the corn, it’s way too low. Sometimes, they’re worried of course about inputs. They’re worried about fertilizer. They’re worried about the cost of fuel, so what we just tried to do was work with our allies in Congress and frankly, we’ll work with anybody in Congress who has good ideas about how to help our farmers.”
On the trade issue, Vance says other countries are taking advantage of American farmers and manufacturers. “If you have countries that are able to come in and undercut the wages of our workers but we’re not able to export their product, ladies and gentlemen, that is not trade, that is international fraud and that is what has been happening for far too long.”
Vance appeared with Congressmen Derrick Van Orden and Tom Tiffany at Pointe Precision, a manufacturer of custom castings for airplanes and machinery, to reinforce President Trump’s State of the Union message.
