Very wet first half of growing season for Minnesota farmer

Nathan Collins is one of many farmers in the Upper Midwest who managed a very wet first half to the growing season.

“We got rain showers on and off throughout the spring and got crop in when we could. Planted soybeans first this year just to try something different and hopefully improve conditions so corn would go in better, but yeah, it’s a little slow start (and) a little yellow in spots.”

Collins grows corn, soybeans, wheat, some organic crops, and silage near Murdock in west-central Minnesota and tells Brownfield the weather recently improved.

“Sunshine and heat in the last week has been very very nice, and expecting to see some significant changes in crop conditions here.”

He says he’s still optimistic about this year’s crop despite the challenging start.
