Vietnam top trade priority for NPPC

The National Pork Producers Council views Vietnam as a top export priority.

NPPC vice president of government relations Maria Zieba says there’s a lot of trade uncertainty.

“There’s a lot of negotiations happening behind the scenes. Our top priority remains and will continue to be market access into Vietnam, we see this as a huge opportunity for our U.S. pork exports.”

During a policy panel at the World Pork Expo in Des Moines Wednesday morning, she said Vietnam’s population and appetite for pork keeps growing.

“But also, Vietnam has that opportunity that is very unique, they not only love to eat muscle cuts, but they eat a lot of offal. Which is where we need to diversify that area.”

Zieba says about half of all U.S. pork variety meat exports went to China last year.
