Vilsack concerned about Brexit
U.S. Dairy Export Council CEO Tom Vilsack is concerned about Brexit.
The former U.S. Ag Secretary says there could be consequences for U.S. dairy exports after Britain leaves the European Union.
“If it is finalized the way it appears to be headed, it might make it hard for us to have trade agreements within the EU and within the UK.”
He tells Brownfield the EU will remain a complicated market for U.S. agriculture.
“The reality is there’s a different attitude and approach over there in terms of cheese, geographic indications, in terms of grains that are produced, genetically modified crops. So I’m a little bit concerned about what opportunities might exist over there.”
Vilsack says that’s one of the reasons the export council continues to focus on Asia, Mexico, Latin America, South America, and Canada.
