Waiting on a market bounce that never came
Jeff Pape is one of many row crop farmers facing some difficult marketing decisions as harvest gets going.
“Kind of interesting talking to people that market ahead like I typically do, and just not having enough marketed this year is probably my only complaint of myself. And it’s refreshing to hear multiple other people as I talk to people kind of in the same boat.”
The eastern Iowa corn and soybean grower tells Brownfield a year ago prices for new crop weren’t high enough to pull the trigger.
“Usually waiting for some kind of a spring bounce and it just never happened, it just kept going down. So a few of us got caught on some of our marketing plans.”
Pape says he’s in pretty good shape with his soybeans but hasn’t sold enough of his corn.
