Waiting until after harvest lows to sell old crop
A farmer in eastern South Dakota says some farmers are waiting until harvest lows have passed in the grain markets this fall to sell old crop corn and soybeans.
But Dave Ellens tells Brownfield the pre-harvest grain dump is likely coming soon.
“I wouldn’t be surprised to see the ethanol plants to start see more corn coming in, because farmers will have to sell it at some point.”
But he says some farmers built additional on-farm storage to store the crop.
“Some farmers are trying to build storage. A traditional bin size out here is 60,000 bushel.”
Ellens says the lower commodity prices also mean tighter margins and farmers are taking a closer look at inputs heading into fall and next spring.
