Warm weather has Minnesota growers thinking about 2026 planting season
Spring fieldwork is likely less than two months away for farmers in southern Minnesota.
Wes Beck grows corn and soybeans near St. James and says the recent warmup has him excited for the 2026 growing season.
“Well I think our operation is like everybody else, when the weather gets nice and the sun shines, the blood flows a little faster.”
He tells Brownfield they apply anhydrous ammonia in the spring.
“So I end up spending the better part of the week putting our anhydrous on, that’s always a good feeling to get that done. And by then we better have the corn planter out of the shed and hooked up to a tractor and ready to go.”
Beck, the current president of the Minnesota Corn Growers Association, says he bought some fertilizer and chemicals this week and expects seed to be delivered in March.
