Water quality, alternative protein are top priorities for OCA in 2020
Plant-based protein and water quality are top of mind for the Ohio Cattlemen’s Association in 2020.
Aaron Arnett is the new president of the OCA.
“One of those is meatless meat,” he says. “The Impossible Whopper for example is one of the challenges that the beef industry is facing in terms of how you deal with those kinds of new products that come in as a challenge to beef demand.”
He says water quality in the Western Lake Erie Basin, for example, is top of mind for the state’s cattle producers.
“The beef industry is very forward leaning in terms of our advocacy for the beef industry and really how much the agriculture community contributes to that relative to municipalities and other large population centers,” he says.
Arnett, who lives in Delaware County and has a multiple-generation family farm, says he’s looking forward to serving as the OCA president.
