Weekly ethanol exports notch new high
U.S. ethanol exports set a new benchmark since weekly data tracking began in May.
Renewable Fuels Association CEO Geoff Cooper says the average of 8.2 million gallons a day was nearly 60 percent higher than the previous week.
“We’ve not been seeing export numbers from the Energy Information Administration for very long, they just started publishing those on a weekly basis earlier this year. But last week’s export number was the highest since they began reporting that data, and I think that bodes very well for us.”
He tells Brownfield the rise in ethanol exports is typical for this time of year, but some of the markets are not.
“Or I guess markets where we haven’t been shipping a lot of produce in recent years. The European Union has really come on strong this year as a major export market for our product again. And the United Kingdom, which is implementing their own E10 program.”
Cooper says Canada is also implementing a clean fuel standard program and continues to be a leading importer of U.S. ethanol.
