Wet conditions persist in eastern MO

Terry Schwoeppe, a farmer in eastern Missouri, says fields remain wet as the crops move through development.

“It’s been very challenging all around, especially trying to get three days without rain to put hay up.”

Schwoeppe says corn is just starting to tassel and the soybeans are sporadic.

“We had to replant three times to finally finish up and get a decent stand. There isn’t much of a root base for anything where we’re at. We’re hoping for a decent fall where we don’t have a lot of wind.”

USDA says nearly 70 percent of the state’s corn is silking with 20 percent of the state’s corn is in the dough stage and conditions rated 81 percent good to excellent. Fourteen percent of Missouri’s soybeans are setting pods with 80 percent good to excellent.

Schwoeppe says while the weather forecast looks favorable…

“I thought that several times before, so I’m just taking things as it is.”
