Wet field conditions are keeping Wisconsin drone operators busy

A drone dealer and custom applicator says field conditions have keep his team very busy this spring.

Jeramy Williams with central-Wisconsin based American Drone says, “We have been getting a ton of rain so yup,  we’ve been pretty busy helping folks out.”

Williams tells Brownfield when fields are too wet for traditional spraying methods to terminate cover crops or burn down weeds, the drones were able to help save the season for many growers.  “It’s been very busy on two fold, so the service side, yes, because of the rain and because of the popularity and the availability of these drones, other operators coming online makes the availability for the typical grower really, really good.  The other thing is the popularity of owner operators.”

Williams says many dairy, forestry, and turf management operators are buying their own drones, and he says some custom applicators are adding drones to their fleets.  “There’s a lot of folks either custom applicators with big ground rigs or airplanes or helicopters realizing that the drones are an excellent supplimental piece of equipment to their already ongoing operations.”

Williams tells Brownfield machines, parts, and service are readily available now, but he did experience some tariff issues on Chinese-made equipment during the winter months.

Williams spoke to Brownfield during the Wisconsin Farm Technology Days media preview Tuesday.
