What you can do now to help yields this fall
An Iowa agronomist says recent rains were welcomed.
AgriGold’s Jeff Morey tells Brownfield,“It’s very good at this time of the year because we’re using a lot of water as we’re finishing out this corn and soybean crop trying to fill out (the) ear, trying to fill out those pods.”
He says farmers should start inspecting corn stalks next month.
“If we’ve got any issues with stalk stress out there or stalk deterioration, we’ll want to prioritize those fields for early harvest potentially.”
As for soybeans, he says, “If we want to maximize those soybean yields, we’ll want to keep an eye on those (insects) and stay ahead of those insect infestations out in the soybean fields.”
Morey, who is based in northwestern Iowa, says heavy moisture and water stress has been a theme for this year’s crop.
