What’s next for Summit Carbon Solutions?

The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission has once again denied the Summit Carbon Solutions Pipeline a permit to build a carbon pipeline in the state.

It’s the second time a permit for the company has been denied in the last three years.

Summit previously told the commission it needed more time for a permit review for the new carbon pipeline, but that wasn’t granted. Late last week, the company submitted a plan to the commission stating it would reduce the footprint of the project in South Dakota, which wouldn’t require a new permit application.

Summit tells Brownfield they are disappointed in the decision, but remain committed to South Dakota.

The company says they will take the necessary steps to refile an application reflecting a reduced scope and continued engagement with landowners and plant partners.

The proposed carbon pipeline project spans several states including Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.
