What’s next for the dairy industry

A dairy market analyst says there’s potential for expansion in the industry.

Mike North with Ever.ag says growing consumer interest in dairy as a protein could create more market opportunities for dairy producers.

“Products that promote health, for example,” he says. “Consumers are demanding more protein and as we walk into the space with this wonderful product, we expect demand is going to be relatively strong.”

He tells Brownfield there could still be some challenges.

“Advancing and growing production capacity could cause headwinds, especially in what I like to call the near west,” he says. “There’s a lot of new capacity coming there, which could potentially grow supply that ultimately pressure price. Dor the time being though, we have some great pricing.”

North says despite the uncertainty of the current political landscape, the outlook for dairy remains strong.

Brownfield’s Erin Anderson interviewed North during the 2025 Indiana Dairy Forum.
