Wheat, sorghum export inspections up on week
The USDA says that as of the week ending October 10th, corn, sorghum, and wheat inspections are ahead of the paces needed to meet projections for the current marketing year. The 2024/25 marketing year kicked off June 1st for wheat and September 1st for corn, sorghum, and soybeans. The USDA next supply, demand, and production update is out November 8th.
Wheat came out at 371,004 tons, up 7,544 from the week ending October 3rd and 14,962 from the week ending October 12th, 2023. The top destinations were Mexico and Japan. For the 2024/25 marketing year to date, wheat inspections are 8,983,115 tons, compared to 6,754,567 in 2022/23.
Corn was reported at 430,323 tons, down 217,640 from the previous week and 36,281 from a year ago. The main destinations were Mexico and Saudi Arabia. At this point in the marketing year, corn inspections are 4,718,541 tons, compared to 3,964,295 this time last year.
Soybeans were pegged at 1,575,467 tons, a decrease of 49,716 from the week before and 534,590 from last year. The primary destinations were China and Egypt. So far, this marketing year, soybean inspections are 5,130,420 tons, compared to 5,503,750 a year ago.
Sorghum totaled 80,585 tons, an increase of 77,725 on the week and 3,070 on the year. The biggest destination was China, followed distantly by Chad. 2024/25 sorghum inspections are 413,815 tons, compared to 381,372 in 2023/24.
