Wheat yields disappointing in southwest Minnesota

A southwest Minnesota farmer is disappointed in spring wheat yields.

Carolyn Olson of Cottonwood says rain early in the season did not benefit the crop.

“We think that affected germination a little bit, and it just affected the stand. Especially on the early variety that we just harvested.”

She tells Brownfield they’ve made good progress despite rain in the area.

“We have about 300 acres planted this year, so being half done is a good feeling.”

Olson says the wheat will be sold to Albert Lea Seed House.
