Widespread variablity for crops in western Nebraska
A southwest Nebraska farmer says his crop conditions are a mixed bag.
Roric Paulman says his irrigated crops are in great shape. “I think we’re going to have as good of a crop as we’ve ever had.”
However, he tells Brownfield, dryland crops are a drastically different story. “I’d be surprised if any of us attempt to pick it other than to satisfy federal crop insurance, but other than that, the soybeans are coming along and they’re really nice.”
Paulman says his soybeans will need additional moisture over the next couple of weeks to ensure it doesn’t lose top-end yield.
The USDA says 55 percent of corn is good-to-excellent, and 64 percent of soybeans are rated good-to-excellent.
