Winfield United celebrates Innovation Center grand opening

The head of Winfield United says his crop inputs business is filling a gap in the market by using state-of-the-art technology to test and evaluate spray systems.

The grand opening of the Winfield United Innovation Center in River Falls, Wisconsin took place Wednesday afternoon.

Mike Vande Logt says the 55,000 square-foot facility features two wind tunnels providing spray application variables to measure droplet size and velocity.

“We have a major issue in the marketplace today with weed resistance.  There is a whole group of new solutions that are going to be needed to solve this particular problem.  And of course part of any of those is to make sure that whatever you’re applying stays on-target.”

The Winfield spray application lab evaluates the entire process, including pesticide and adjuvant formulations, tank mixes, nozzle performance, spray characterization, drift and droplet deposition, and plant uptake.

“It’s pulling the inside card to the straight flush is basically what we’re trying to accomplish here.  And this system is the best one on the planet to be able to do that.”

Vande Logt calls their development process a stamp of approval that represents the comprehensive, rigorous, and proven methods Winfield uses to bring products and technologies to market.
