Winter storm bearing down on Central and Eastern U.S.

A winter storm is expected to impact much of the central and eastern U.S. this weekend.

Bret Walts with BAMWX says there are a lot of moving pieces as the system gains strength.

“But it has the potential, I would say especially out in parts of northeast Kansas, southeast Nebraska, northwest Missouri, to really be a memorable storm. And I think out there we could be talking more than a foot of snow.”

He tells Brownfield there could also be significant ice accumulations.

“And when I say bad, I’m talking half an inch or more in some spots of southern Missouri, Kentucky, maybe southern Indiana. Which can obviously cause concerns for power outages and widespread travel issues.”

Walts says the storm should “ramp up” Saturday night into Sunday across parts of the Central Plains as it moves east.
