Winter wheat average on OK-KS line
A custom harvester says the winter wheat crop is average at the Kansas-Oklahoma border.
Ryan Haffner says the wheat was really stressed at one point and there was some damage.
“Test weights are still good. Protein is ok. The yields are variable 25 to 60+ bushel wheat now.”
He tells Brownfield good harvest progress has been made due to the nice weather conditions and next week, he’ll be in western Kansas and eastern Colorado.
“Marginal or spotty is the word I’d keep using. The rain came too late in some places and literally in a certain area, it all came down to one rain here or there. I expect it all to be variable. Southeast Colorado was too little too late.”
USDA says 12% of the U.S. winter wheat crop has been harvested, ahead of average.
