Wisconsin Ag Coalition shows candidates about farming, food production
Wisconsin’s political candidates have an opportunity to learn more about agriculture and important issues before election day.
Jason Mugnaini with Wisconsin Farm Bureau tells Brownfield about thirty agricultural groups teamed up to host Engage with Agriculture, a series of on-farm bipartisan educational and relationship building opportunities. “This initiative that we took on, we wanted to show any candidate, anybody who’s running on this November ballot what it is to be in production agriculture, what it means to be successful in the upredictable world of agriculture.”
Mugnaini says there are twelve events around Wisconsin, and they’re not campaign events. “It doesn’t matter if they’re running in rural, suburban, or urban districts, whether they have deep roots in agriculture, whether they’re new to agriculture, we want them to understand what our industry does.”
Mugnaini says the candidates have come to listen and learn. “We’re seeing folks on both sides of the aisle interact with each other while they’re interacting with us and kind of seeing that agriculture might be the industry that can kind of pull back the layers of the onion here and show what business needs are in rural areas.”
Mugnaini says it’s important to show potential lawmakers about farming and ag issues since there are fewer farmers running for office now.
