Wisconsin crops improving with favorable weather

Wisconsin’s crops are improving with the favorable weather.

USDA statistician Greg Bussler says rain early last week stalled some field work, especially in central Wisconsin, but hay, small grain, and potato harvesting continued.

Eighty-four percent of Wisconsin’s corn is now silking with 36% in the dough stage and 5% in the dent stage.  Sixty-three percent of the state’s corn is rated good to excellent.

Eighty-eight percent of the soybeans are blooming, with 66% setting pods.  Sixty-two percent of the soybeans are rated good to excellent.

Ninety-five percent of the oats are coloring, and 58% of the oats for grain have already been harvested.

The winter wheat harvest is 94% finished.

The second cutting of alfalfa hay is nearly finished, with the third cutting 68% done and the fourth cutting 5% finished.  The all-hay condition is down slightly with 78% of the hay in good to excellent condition.

The potato harvest is 17% finished.  Ninety-one percent of the potatoes are rated good to excellent.
