The Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board has a new name. Senior Vice President Patrick Geoghegan tells Brownfield the state’s dairy checkoff-supported promotion group is now called Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin. “We decided that since dairy farmers really weren’t identified in the title, that we would change the name so that the people that we work for and represent are front and center in the title, and that’s why we arrived on Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin.”
Geoghegan says the mission of the 35-year-old group doesn’t change. He says it’s all about creating a market for more Wisconsin dairy products. “We do that by building awareness. We do that by working with the Center for Dairy Research at the University of Wisconsin to develop new products.”
The marketing and promotion arm has helped boost cheese sales by 45 million pounds in the last five years and developed both new products and recipes for home and food service use.
