Wisconsin Farm Bureau dumps raw milk policy, supports additional tractor safety trainers

Farm Bureau officials set their policy objectives Monday, and that included a change in a dairy provision.

Board member Dan Meyer says Farm Bureau delegates changed direction, and removed policy supporting raw milk sales. “Other parts of the country have had reports of avian influenza. There have not been any reported cases in Wisconsin, so I think with that in the background, I believe the delegates, in my personal opinion, decided perhaps it would be better to remove the policy on supporting raw milk sales.”

Delegate Kelly Wilfert successfully pushed for policy that would expand tractor safety training beyond ag teachers. “If we really need more educators, could we look to that private sector to see if there are some qualified safety professionals that might be able to fill that gap.

President Brad Olsen says, “You know, only four bylaw changes, which is very uncommon and I think the changes we’ve made to the delegate policy is great.”

The Wisconsin Farm Bureau annual meeting wrapped up Monday in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.
