Wisconsin farmer expects more corn acres

A Wisconsin farmer says regardless of the March planting intentions report, they plan to plant a little more corn in 2016.

Aaron Zimmerman with Ever Green Growers Inc. in Rosendale, Wisconsin tells Brownfield owning most of their farmland has been an advantage for the farm business. He says for 2016, they plan to plant a few more corn acres.  “I think that corn is still a safer management bet and I would expect to see more corn acres.”  He says, “If we get a wet spring, push comes to shove, we’re going to see more beans.”

The 26-year-old tells Brownfield the 2013 growing season was one of their best ever. For this year, he’s preparing for a cool, wet spring.  “For us that’s tough because we are so much further north than a lot of those other states.”  He says, “It get’s tough for us to get planted and get a full day of maturity out there.”

Zimmerman farms 2,700 acres of corn, soybeans and wheat with his father, uncle and grandmother in East-central Wisconsin.
