Wisconsin farmers harvesting small grains as row crops continue developing

Wisconsin’s warm and mostly dry week allowed for small grain harvesting and good row crop development.  USDA reporters say only six percent of the state’s topsoil and three percent of the subsoil is short of moisture.

Seventy-two percent of the state’s corn is silking with 24% now in the dough stage.  Sixty-one percent of Wisconsin’s corn is rated good to excellent.

Eighty-one percent of the soybeans are blooming with 49% setting pods.  Sixty percent of the soybeans are rated good to excellent.

Ninety-one percent of the oats are coloring and 45% of the oats have already been harvested.  Seventy-nine percent of the oats are rated good to excellent.

The harvest for winter wheat is 86% finished, which is nine days ahead of average.

The second cutting of alfalfa hay is 92% done, and the third crop is 48% finished.  The all-hay condition improved two points last week with 80% now good to excellent.

The potato harvest is underway, but not yet at full pace with 13% of the potatoes in the bin.  Ninety-one percent of the crop is rated good to excellent.
