Wisconsin FFA benefiting from WPS Farm Show

Blue and gold corduroy jackets can be found throughout the Wisconsin Public Service Farm Show grounds as students raise funds for the Wisconsin FFA Foundation.

Wisconsin FFA State Vice President Jared Retzlaff tells Brownfield members are volunteering at information stations and at the FFA silent auction.  “Those funds are used to award students for all of their successes and hard work, like for their proficiencies for example, or their Supervised Agriculture Experience.”

Ariel Bjorge, President of the Oshkosh West FFA Chapter, tells Brownfield she’s volunteered at the show for that past five years. She says as a high school senior, she wishes she had more opportunities for agriscience classes.  “I have taken animal science and vet science, those two classes will eventually help me into my nursing career.”

Retzlaff says FFA helps students learn about possible careers in agriculture and prepare them to be better leaders.  “Going through agricultural education, learning about all of the different opportunities, I learned that it’s more than just farming—there are other careers like marketing, like being involved in communications.”

FFA members spoke with Brownfield Wednesday during the WPS Farm Show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
