Wisconsin FFA follows national model, getting more blue jackets to members

Wisconsin’s FFA Foundation is keeping the Blue Jacket Legacy program going strong.

Carisa Figlmiller is an agriculture educator and FFA advisor at Lincoln-Alma Center, and she’s also part of the 2020-2021 state officer team, which she was part of. “For lots of our students and FFA members, they don’t have the money to have official dress, to have the blue FFA jacket, the FFA tie or scarf that goes with it, and this is one way where they can show their pride for an organization that helps them become who they want to be in the future.”

The Wisconsin FFA Alumni Association helps raise money to buy the jackets, and other donors work with FFA Foundation Director Ellen Schutt, who says the Blue Jacket Legacy program has strong support. “We’ve been very successful, not only with our past state officer teams donating to this fund, but also corporate sponsors such as Crystal Farms and many others who say, hey, we believe in this and we care about these students.”

Schutt tells Brownfield when fundraising, this is an easy ask because donors love the program and she had no trouble raising the funds for this year’s jackets.

The Blue Jacket Legacy program is patterned after the National FFA program.  More than 30 new jackets will be given to students during the Wisconsin FFA Convention this week in Madison.
