Wisconsin Governor Walker orders dairy task force

WI Gov. Scott Walker

Wisconsin’s Governor Scott Walker directed State Ag Secretary Sheila Harsdorf and University of Wisconsin System President Ray Cross to create Dairy Task Force 2.0 to come up with recommendations to maintain a viable and profitable dairy industry in Wisconsin.

A similar task force was assembled in 1985.  The new task force will be chaired by UW-Madison Director of Dairy Policy Mark Stephenson.

Walker says industry experts can work together to create real solutions to help farmers, processors, and allied organizations.

Dairy pumps $43.3 billion into Wisconsin’s economy every year, supports nearly 80,000 jobs and produces almost 14 percent of the nation’s milk.

Wisconsin lost 500 dairy farms in 2017 while the total number of milk cow herds is down about 20 percent from five years ago.
