Wisconsin harvest gets closer to finish line
Harvest continues in Wisconsin, and some farmers are getting fertilizer applications and fall tillage done.
USDA statistician Greg Bussler says ninety-four percent of the corn for grain is mature and 44% of that corn is already in the bin. That’s 12 days ahead of average. Moisture content for grain corn was averaging 19% last week Sixty-three percent of the corn was rated good to excellent. The corn for silage harvest is 96% finished.
Ninety-three percent of the state’s soybeans are harvested. That’s four weeks ahead of average.
Winter wheat planting is 91% finished, and that’s 10 days ahead of average. Sixty-two percent of the winter wheat has emerged, and 75% of that emerged wheat is rated good to excellent.
The potato harvest is 98% finished, the cranberry harvest is continuing, and fall tillage is 41% complete.
The dry conditions have made pasture conditions drop six more points, with only 26% of the pasture and range land rated good to excellent. Only parts of eastern Wisconsin had a few sprinkles last week.
