Wisconsin lawmakers introduce SAF tax credit legislation
Sustainable aviation fuel production could take off in Wisconsin if newly proposed legislation becomes law.
Jason Mugnaini with Wisconsin Farm Bureau tells Brownfield the bill supported by the state’s agriculture coalition would incentivize fuel production in the Badger State. “Wisconsin is the only Midwestern state without a significant biofuels support program at the state level and we really feel that this tax credit for sustainable aviation fuel or synthetic aviation fuel, SAF, is something that really meets the portfolio that Wisconsin can provide.”
Mugnaini says other states incentivize the SAF users, but the Wisconsin proposal is different. “Ours is actually a production tax credit, which will be going to those SAF producers, and hopefully, the cost savings to those producers gets pushed down to our farmers.”
The bill was introduced Thursday in the State Assembly by Representative David Steffen from Green Bay and in the Senate by Senators Romaine Quinn of Rice Lake and Ag Committee Chair Patrick Testin from Stevens Point. The bill is being circulated for co-sponsors and has not yet been sent to committee.
