Wisconsin legislators bring back ag lemon law proposal

A group of Wisconsin lawmakers have re-introduced a bill that would create a farm implement lemon law.

If passed, implements of husbandry that don’t conform to the warranty and have been back for repairs at least four times or out of service at least thirty days would make the farmer eligible for a replacement or a full refund.  The bill is like Wisconsin’s first-in-the-nation lemon law for automobiles and light trucks, but would provide farmers protection for farm implements, which are usually very expensive to buy and repair.

Similar bills have been introduced since 2019 but have failed to get Senate approval.  Newly introduced Senate Bill 8 already has seventeen cosponsors in the Senate and Assembly.

Several other states have farm equipment lemon laws, including Arkansas, South Dakota, Illinois, and Minnesota.
