Wisconsin Raised program promotes local pork purchases
The Wisconsin Pork Association has launched a program to help consumers connect with local producers.
Keri Retallick tells Brownfield the Wisconsin Raised program works with farmers and in-state meat processors to sell more locally-grown pork products. She says the COVID pandemic amplified local demand, and WPA wants to grow that even more. “So now we’re going to be having a page on our website dedicated to Wisconsin Raised. We’ll have brochures here where people can actually know that they can get the same type of butterfly pork chop that we have here at State Fair. They can order pork burgers in the future from our Wisconsin Raised program so we’re working on all of that right now.”
And for consumers, Retallick says connecting directly to a local processor can help them get exactly what they’re looking for. “You can have the size portions that you want whether you want an eight ounce chop or a twelve ounce chop. You can have it cut to where you want, and you’re buying pork from a local pork producer.”
Retallick says the Wisconsin Pork Association wants to hear from producers and processors interested in working with them either by going to the website or calling 608-723-7551.
Retallick spoke to Brownfield during the Wisconsin State Fair.
