Wisconsin soybean leaders hope for in-state crush plant

The President of the Wisconsin Soybean Marketing Board hopes an in-state crush plant becomes a reality soon.  Pat Mullooly tells Brownfield the new DeLong Maritime Agricultural Facility at the Port of Milwaukee might help stimulate development by providing access to new markets for soybean meal. “We’ve had feasibility studies and just recently funded one as to why we don’t have a crushing plant here in the State of Wisconsin, and maybe this is the ticket because it’s an export facility that can handle soybean meal.”

Mullooly says the new infrastructure like the DeLong facility and a future crush plant helps farmers. “It’s going to bring in a lot of, a lot more opportunity for new markets, different markets than we’ve seen here before and locally right here in Wisconsin for our growers to improve their bottom line.”

Mullooly spoke with Brownfield during the grand opening of the DeLong Maritime Agricultural Facility in Milwaukee.
