World Dairy Summit begins in Chicago

For the first time in more than 30 years, the World Dairy Summit is in the United States.  Krysta Harden with the U.S. Dairy Export Council tells Brownfield this is a big opportunity for the U.S. “We’re so excited to be able to showcase U.S. dairy and we have tours planned for on farms as well as processing plants in addition to kind of the meeting, the technical side, all of the things you do at these types of summits.”

Harden says more than 55 countries will be represented, and U.S. dairy manufacturing and processing is in the spotlight, with several tours planned. “We’re going to get the rest of the world out there to see what we’re really doing and I know they will be impressed. It’s great to have that opportunity. All of our tours are over-subscribed. People are interested in seeing first-hand what’s going on in U.S. dairy.”

Harden says some of the tours take visitors deep into the dairy country of Michigan, Indiana, and Wisconsin to show what producers are doing. “Animal care, sustainability, food safety, all of the issues that are top-of-mind for global customers, we really want to be able to showcase how the U.S. industries are leading in these areas.”

World Dairy Summit is in Chicago through Thursday.
