Year-round E15 gains momentum as Congress eyes appropriations vehicle

A U.S. Congressman sees an opportunity to pass year-round, nationwide E15 in the next month.

Iowa Republican Randy Feenstra tells Brownfield there’s a lot of focus in Washington on expanding markets for U.S. farmers.

“We’ve been pushing the administration, so hopefully we’re in the next four weeks this gets done. We’ve got one shot at this, we had all the stakeholders fly in this week to talk to everybody about it, how important it is. But that would really help.”

He says E15 legislation could be attached to an upcoming mini-omnibus appropriations bill.

“That’s going to happen next week. We’ve got one passing this week, it probably won’t jump on this week. It’s really directed on how the Senate can achieve this, we’re working from the House side. But we’re just trying to find that train that we can jump on and get it done.”

Feenstra says with fiscal budgets coming due to avoid another government shutdown, there should be several opportunities between now and mid-February.
