Financial health of ag is good

A popular exhibit at the 2013 Farm Progress Show is the Farm Credit Services of Illinois tent, just inside the main gate.

Land values and cash rents are on the minds of many farmers attending the show. Don Olson, Executive Vice President and Chief Credit Officer for Farm Credit Services of Illinois, tells Brownfield communication between the landlord and tenant is very important. There needs to be a clear understanding of expected profit levels and how that profit can be shared between the farmer taking the risk and landlord who owns the land.

Olson said the financial health of agriculture is overall very good and the liquidity on balance sheets is much better than any time he has seen in his 37 years with Farm Credit.
