Fredericks is long-time On-Farm Network participant

Wayne Fredericks of Osage, Iowa credits the On-Farm Network for making him a better farmer.

fredericks-wayne“It’s been one of the best things I’ve ever participated in, in my life,” Fredericks says. “I’ve learned how to do trials on my own farm, learned how to gather information in a predictable and usable manner—and, bottom line, it has made me a lot of money by being a participant in the trials just because I’ve learned a lot from doing it.”

Always willing to consider new ideas, Fredericks is now conducting cover crop trials on his farm through the On-Farm Network.

“You know, cover crops kind of come from east of Iowa—Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania—a little different climates than we have here, especially where we live (northern Iowa),” he says. “So we’ve been aggressively putting out trials, trying to gather some information and see what we can experience and learn.”

Fredericks participated in a panel discussion on cover crops at the On-Farm Network Conference in Ames, where we had a chance to visit with him.
