Grand Champion drives return to The Coliseum
The Grand Champion drives headed back to The Coliseum this year and for one 4-H’er the experience was extra special.
16 year-old Cole Wilcox of Lawrence County the Grand Champion Steer last night but also in 2012. “I feel like I have a huge privilege being the last one to win in the old Coliseum and the first one to win in the new Coliseum,” he says. “It’s actually pretty cool.”
He says there were a few things the judge liked about his steer. “It’s the muscle he has, the good look he has from the side,” he says. “And just the way he presents himself.”

For 16 year-old Alexandra Raute of Hamilton County says her win yesterday happened because of a lot of hard work by the entire family. “We just have to work them extremely hard at the barn,” she says.

17-year-old Abby Taylor of Noble County says she was a little shocked and was battling nerves. But, the win was big for her family. “I know our family worked very hard through the summer and spring,” she says. “We walk our pigs morning and night and rinse them numerous times throughout the day. It takes a lot of hard work. We have 14 pigs at home and it takes every bit of every day to get where we are.”
