How to grow 100 bushel soybeans

van roekel-ryanAfter growing up on small farm near Pella, Iowa, Ryan Van Roekel earned his B.S. in Agronomy from Iowa State University and his M.S. from the University of Minnesota.  He moved on to the University of Arkansas and began his Ph.D. work, focusing on maximum yield from soybeans.

Van Roekel has conducted research on Kip Cullers’ farm in southwest Missouri, small plots in Arkansas and large-scale strip trials with farmers in the delta region of east Arkansas.  He saw soybean yields of up to 129 bushels per acre in his research, providing insight on how to increase soybean yields on farms.

Van Roekel joined DuPont Pioneer in 2014 and returned to central Iowa, where he is currently putting the finishing touches on his Ph.D. dissertation and working on publishing the results.

We visited with Van Roekel at the On-Farm Network Conference.
