Reduced compaction helps boost yield

CrouchJamesWith lower commodity prices, it’s important for farmers to maximize yield as much as possible.  James Crouch with Michelin tires says reducing compaction in the field is one way to reduce yield loss.  “Commodity prices are tight, and the demand for high for farmers to get as much out of their land as possible,” he says.  “A low compaction, low-pressure tire is the best way to do it.”

Crouch tells Brownfield a low-pressure tire, like Michelin’s SprayBib VF provides the same performance.  “The best example I like to use, is think about a snowshoe,” he says.  “If you want to stay on top of the snow, you use a snow shoe.  It spreads your weight over the largest area possible.  It’s the exact same thing with a tire.  If you have a sprayer that weighs 40,000 pounds you want to have the longest footprint possible to lower your PSI on the field.”

Michelin’s SprayBib VF tire will run at up to 40 percent less pressure for the same load as its Michelin AgriBib Row Crop tire.
