More research dollars for PEDv expected
More investments into PEDv research are expected to come out of the National Pork Industry Forum this week. While pork producers are expecting better profits this year many producers are concerned about what the impact will be of the ongoing spread of the Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus.
“We’ve seen pork producers who have lost several weeks of production because of this terrible disease and so not having pigs to sell doesn’t necessarily help the bottom line even if prices are high,” says Chris Novak, CEO of the National Pork Board.
He tells Brownfield that’s why the board will be supporting more research dollars, “We’ve invested over a million dollars already since last June and yet there’s more work that we know needs to be done. Producers are looking for answers and we think that we can help provide that to them.”
