Stalk quality a concern this fall

Jeff Hartz with Wyffels Hybrids says stalk quality is a concern for many growers this fall.

As harvest around the Corn Belt gets in to full swing, Hartz says growers have to decide which fields to start in first.  “With the moisture we’ve had this year, nitrogen has been depleted and there are a lot of fields out there we have poor stalk integrity,” he says.  “People really have to be thinking about what order they want to get those fields out in.”

He says if farmers don’t prioritize fields, weak stalks could deteriorate even more – decreasing crop quality and delay harvest.
