Teen seeks career advice from Secretary Perdue
High school freshman Brielle Prock came to the Commodity Classic seeking career advice from a Trump Cabinet member. The California FFA member sat through Sonny Perdue’s news conference at Commodity Classic before approaching the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture on his way out.
“My discussion with Secretary Perdue was ‘what does my future look like in agriculture, and what do other kids’ futures look like in agriculture,’” Prock told Brownfield Ag News following her conversation with the secretary. “Through my next four years in high school, what can I do to help me get into ag communications.”
The young teen told Brownfield she looks forward to a career that will mix what she wants to do with what comes naturally.
“I don’t have to be an actress to be on TV, I can do something I love while reporting about something I love,” she said. “For me, agriculture is something close to my heart, because I’ve grown up on a dairy farm since I was born.”
Prock explained that she was the only young person at the news conference, and that by talking to Secretary Perdue, she could help not only herself, but others by getting the secretary’s perspective on preparing for such a career.
“If I take a step and do something bigger,” said Prock, “it can help the other kids who weren’t here today.”
