Vet at IPPE – “Lock your farm door”

Cases of the Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus in hogs continue to climb and veterinarians continue to stress biosecurity to work against the highly contagious disease.

Murphy-Brown’s Dr. Mary Battrell says the focus must be on “locking your farm door” to help reduce the spread of PEDv. She says the virus is “very stable” and “capable of remaining in an environment for weeks” which can lead to continued swine losses.

She told participants this week at the International Production & Processing Expo in Atlanta that “there are a lot of positive ways PEDv can get into a farm.”

According to DTN, there were 215 new cases of PEDv reported last week, the highest weekly number so far.
