Road and bridge repair a top priority in Iowa

branstad-state of state speech 1-15-isa-editIowa Governor Terry Branstad says increased funding for Iowa’s roads and bridges is one of his priorities in 2015.

In his Condition of the State speech Tuesday, Branstad said it’s time to tackle the issue.

“Without action, Iowa’s roads and bridges face an uncertain future. Our farmers will find it more difficult in delivering commodities to market,” Branstad said. “Building an infrastructure as strong as the future that we all want for Iowa must be a bipartisan priority this legislative session.”

In a written statement, Iowa Farm Bureau president Craig Hill praised the governor’s call to action on what Hill calls “Iowa’s deteriorating road structure”. Hill says Farm Bureau still believes the fuel tax is the fairest and most equitable method to fund the road improvements.
