A mild/warm start to October for the Heartland; a few showers for parts of the eastern Corn Belt

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of warmer-than-normal weather nationwide, except for near- or below-normal temperatures in the Pacific Northwest.

Meanwhile, near- or below-normal precipitation across most of the country should contrast with wetter-than-normal conditions in the Southeast, extending as far north as the Ohio Valley and parts of the central and eastern Corn Belt.
