A thaw ahead for most of the Heartland; a quiet, early-winter pattern for some, not all

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of warmer-than-normal weather nationwide, except for near- or below-normal temperatures in parts of  the Northeast and Pacific Northwest. 

Meanwhile, below-normal precipitation in most areas from the central and southern Plains into the Southeast should contrast with wetter-than-normal conditions in the northern and western U.S.
